Arriving at the conference!

October 9th, 2011

Hi everyone!

Woot, we have over 200 registrations, and today is the last day to sign-up so we’re beginning to wrap up final details and submit our final counts to catering and such.

We look forward to seeing you at Stanford in less than a week.  Just to make sure that everyone arrives safely, we have attached very detailed pdf of maps and directions on how to get to LKSC.  Please note that the check-in location for Friday is different from the check-in location for Saturday.  Also, free parking close to both check-in locations is available from Friday at 4pm to Monday at 6am, so you should be set.  These areas are marked on the map below.  Please do pay attention to the signage however, some parking spaces are very clearly marked “Permit required 24/7″.  For those traveling by public transit, check our free Stanford shuttle system: http://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite/MargueriteSched.shtml, which runs more frequently on the weekday than on the weekend.

Also a quick note of clarification, dress code is professional dress for the entire conference (including banquet) except the kick-off performance on Friday night.

Our social chair, Dani, who has planned an amazing evening in SF for you on Saturday night wanted us to remind you that you only have ONE HOUR between the end of the banquet (8:00pm) and the bus departure (9:00pm) to SF.  We know it might be a bit rushed, but it will totally be worth it, and we ask that you manage your time accordingly.  If you feel that you do not have enough time to return to your hotels to change, feel free to change at LKSC itself.

Last but not least, if you are interested in running for a National APAMSA Board Officer position, please visit www.apamsa.org or email president@apamsa.org for more information.

See you soon!

Sign-up now — we have good things in store for you!

September 20th, 2011

This is so amazing we can hardly contain our giddiness — thanks to our sponsors (and our hardworking sponsorship committee) we have some really awesome raffle prizes for you.

Just to give you a taste:

  • Lippincott textbooks in physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, and more
  • USMLERx video review courses
  • Kaplan Qbanks
  • prizes from Tao Le, author of First Aid
  • and even for the pre-meds: MCAT review courses

These products usually run for several hundred dollars, so if you haven’t already, register for the conference to get a shot at all the swag.

Early bird registration — deadline extended!

September 10th, 2011

Hey everyone,

It seems that some schools need more time to gather their funding sources, so we have pushed back early bird registration until September 17.  Please get your loose ends tied and sign up as soon as you can!

Other miscellaneous announcements we have

  • We have a fabulous tech-savvy med student named James in charge of all things tech-related.  If you encounter a purely technical question (ie “The registration link doesn’t work in my browser”, “Can I change my registration choice after I submitted it”), please email James directly at jxie@stanford.edu instead of the conference@apamsa.org account in order to have your needs addressed.  To be quite frank, we are all thumbs and utterly useless when it comes to those issues.
  • The entire conference is open to everyone who might be interested in our workshops.  You do not need to be a medical student or an APAMSA member to register!  We welcome students in other fields and undergraduates to the Friday-Saturday portion of the conference.  The Sunday portion of the conference is directly specifically at pre-medical students.
  • After some discussion with our planning committee and advising staff, we are ending the conference at Sunday NOON rather than the originally stated 2pm.  This will give conference attendees the opportunities to socialize and grab lunch amongst themselves while conference volunteers pack-up for the weekend.

Thanks,

Sophie and Pin-yi

Best,

Welcome

April 3rd, 2011

Dear Conference Attendees,

Change is all around us. With each new year, each new step in our career, each new president or health care proposal, come promises of change.

But if you look around us carefully, change also seems glaringly absent. Health inequities still exist, access to health services is lacking in communities across the US despite rising health costs, and inadequate prevention services and social services hamper the well-being of many populations, including Asian Pacific American populations.

So the question becomes, what are YOU going to do about it? You, the future physicians and leaders in health, how will you bring the change to the communities that need you?

We are happy to announce that theme for this year’s conference is “Prescription for Change: ACT Now”.  We hope that this year’s conference will help you answer that question. We hope to expose you to models of change and perspectives from people who use their voice for the APA communities that they serve. And in true Stanford spirit, we hope this conference offers you not just the opportunity to learn about and discuss health challenges facing APA communities, but also provides the skills and tools to take action that you need to tackle those challenges.

Thank you for your interest in APAMSA’s national conference, and we look forward to seeing you in October!
